‘Hymn To Freedom’ – (Oscar Peterson) – jazz/gospel piano lesson

‘Hymn To Freedom’ – (Oscar Peterson) – jazz/gospel piano lesson. I have since found that there is a transcription of one of Oscar’s versions. Those who are looking for a fairly simple one to play could perhaps play the first piano-only chorus of this. This was improvised from a basic leadsheet with chords and melody. This leadsheet, and a full printable transcription are on my DVD – for over 9 hours of video and over 140 transcriptions www.bushgrafts.com

    I love this!

I especially love the progression throughout the performance, from the fairly straight Hymn-like block chords towards the start, which then loosens up, and of couse the much freer style of playing in the trio. I can almost hear a Hammond B3 in the background ;)

On another note, I thought the seamless way you brought the rest of the trio in half way through was your best to date. Fantastic, loved it!

It’s outstanding in how you hi light sections and give an analysis. Excellent work.
